Sundays are always a strange day in the Kuriologist house.  There is a tenancy for The Kuriologist to go 'off-piste', a day for light lateral thinking? 

How I linked a US Marine Corps training creed to my creative art in my brain is anybody's guess!

However, a little history -  US Marines Rifleman’s creed

Major General William H. Rupertus wrote the original Rifleman’s creed during WWII, probably in late 1941 or early 1942. All enlisted Marines learn the creed at recruit training. The  original Rifleman's creed remains part of basic United States Marine Corps doctrine.

With utter respect & no offence intended to the US Marines &/or fans of the film Full Metal Jacket - Here is an etsy shop creed.

The other day I posted about having created a frog/toad & I made a youtube slideshow I was so happy with the little fella.  Well he/she has friends now .

Now I am told there are Frog/Toad collectors in the same way some folk collect piggy or cat figures.  Well these croakers (Actually they don't croak!) would be pretty unique in any collection, as each is very individually hand made. No two have turned out quite the same.

Kuriology Trilobite Sculpture

Ah!  Now you may have come to this blog thinking that in some 'Jurassic Park' like manor some laboratory boffin had managed to extract DNA, MBA or 'what the *FIH' from some ancient amber encrusted species. 

Sorry to disappoint. But bare with me fossil hounds, look, see, there are Trilobites!

The in title 'fossil' reference is to 'me', a silver surfer of the inter-web. 

Why life in old fossil?

Well I think (only think mind?) I may have finally cracked Google+.  At least discovered how to post youtube videos, blog post & my etsy store inventory.

Now for kids under 30yrs it is 2nd nature, but this dinosaur has found it a real struggle.  Of all the social media sites Google+ has to be the most mind numbing complex & confusing of the whole lot.  I tried once before, no, twice before & gave up.  I know Google+ has circles (whatever they are), but I found myself simply going around them - circles.

So there I was watching something diabolically boring on television.  As usual I was fiddling & scrunching newspaper in my hand.  My deliberating whether to mix up a new batch of paste & carry on working on the half complete meter long kraken squid hanging on my study wall.

In my hand was a form taking shape that seemed familiar.  Completely unconsciously I had begun to create a shell form.  Now I love chambered Nautilus shells, there is something about their shape & form that is pleasing.  I had been reconsidering having a pop at making one for sometime, as previous attempts had alluded me.

The 'Nautilus' name very much synonymous with steampunk enthusiasts, but more so for the submarine than for the mollusc sea shell from which the underwater vessel derives its name.  

For me the nautilus pompilius shell always conjures up an image of still life paintings or wonderful goblets of the Renaissance era, but the Greeks & Romans too had a love of the exotic shell form . No self-respecting Cabinet of Curiosities or Oddities collection seems to lack one of these shells in its midst.

But this Kuriologist creation surely more of an oddity.  A real 'paper' nautilus that was not a paper nautilus (there is such a natural thing as a paper nautilus - Argonauta argo, a form of pelagic octopus), nor was this a pompilius nautilus, but a paper one.

Now that I have seemingly cracked how to make this conchologists favorite I will probably have to list them in at https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/KuriousThings   But give me a day or two, as I'm still getting to grips with listing inventory on etsy.

Yesterday, in between walking the dog, keeping dear old mum supplied in copious cups of tea, preparing Sunday dinner & doing the laundry...I managed to find the time to post my etsy shop inventory on to Pinterest.

Why?  

Well I read that considerable number of sales leads for etsy shops/stores were being generated via postings on Pinterest.  Now I do not know the truth of this & as yet I have few followers on my Pinterest account.  This is despite the 'generally' unique images I post there.

However, even an ancient social media fossil dinosaur like myself can see the advantages long term of having interconnection between various different platforms in different places on the internet all eventually leading back to a retail point.

Up until quite recently I had been happy to simply post images of my sculpture creations with no real intent or desire to sell.  But space & storage has now become a real issue in the Kuriology Art Laboratory. There is barely room to swing a mummified cat or crocodile.
